Holocaust speaker: “So You Will Remember” – Rose De Liema’s story of survival

Please join us for a very special event. We have the great privilege of hosting and hearing from a holocaust survivor, Rose De Liema. Rose, a resident of Orange County, will share her experience of life before, during and after WWII.

Event Details:

Date & Time: April 18, 2010, 11:30 am

Location: CJC of MV

Who: Open to the entire community, older children are welcome.

No Charge

Rose De Liema

Rose De Liema, is a Holocaust Survivor who has an unwavering commitment to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and its victims. Rose, who is now 88, speaks to school children, and adults of all faiths and religions.

Rose grew up in Holland in a “happy, peace-loving, good Jewish family.” She married Sal De Liema in December 1942 and in her wedding photo her bridal bouquet concealed the yellow “Jood” stars she and her new husband were forced to wear. Rose and Sal spent some time in hiding before being taken to concentration camps. Rose and Sal De Liema met the Frank family (Anne1, her sister Margot, her father Otto and their mother) in August 1944 at the Westerbork transit camp. (Sal De Liema and Otto Frank were also together in Auschwitz.) The De Liemas had a lifelong friendship with Otto Frank (who died in 1980, at the age of 91). Rose and Sal De Liema (now deceased) were featured in director Jon Blair's 1996 Academy-Award winning documentary Anne Frank Remembered.

Rose (who lives in Orange County, CA) has written a manuscript, “So You Will Remember – A Mother Writes to Her Children,” detailing her experiences in the Shoah. Click here to view the entire 45 page manuscript.

 (Prepared April 8, 2010)

1 Anne Frank died of typhus at age 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March 1945, just two weeks before the camp was liberated.

Gold Buying Party III

By popular demand we are once again having our very successful Gold Buying Party on April 11, 3-6 pm.

As you have been cleaning for Passover you have probably found lots of gold and jewelry that is old and unused, broken or worse. Don’t fret, smile. That junk is worth a lot of money. Just ask the very satisfied people who have joined our parties in the past. Last time the average person walked out with over $700.

Expert jeweler, Sam Hassine, evaluates your gold and gives you cash for it. CJC benefits as well in a very nice way. Thank you Sam and for all those who have participated in the past. Email [email protected] (subject gold) and make your reservation today.

Lag B’Omer & Israel Expo

Join the Jewish community as we celebrate Lag B'Omer and the Israel Expo. There will be music, live entertainment, great food, Lag B’Omer and other activities and much much more. A wonderful time for the whole family.

·         Date & Time: Sunday, May 2, 1-6 pm.
