Masterpieces & Martinis
a JWC event recap
October 17, 2012
Wow! What a fun evening we had! Batsheva did it again and took my breath away when I walked in the room! The decor was absolutely exquisite with beautiful rich Moroccan colors to go with our Israeli feast - what a treat for our eyes and taste buds!
It was great to meet so many new women at this event and how special it was that Rabbi Marcus was able to carve out some time to speak to us. By the time he was finished everyone was ready to enjoy the process of tapping into their creative side and from the looks of it, everyone did!!! 50+ women painting, chatting, connecting with themselves and others - a beautiful site!
If you want to see some photos, (thanks to Joelle Quinn ) ‘like’ the CJC of Mission Viejo Facebook page.
We really missed Dara at this event but a very special thank you to Leah Levy who so bravely offered to write the following recap for this event:
Under the skillful leadership of Dr. Siri Smith and our own Rebbitzin Bassie Marcus the JWC launched the first in its 2012 series. Over 50 women commenced the evening with a "L’chaim" bar where fruit martinis were created by Andee Dekofsky. From there we navigated to the food — tasty falafel, salads, dips, desserts — which fed our physical selves.
On to the spiritual parts of us — Rabbi Marcus shared with us on "the relationship with your art and yourself." He spoke about bringing color in to a black and white world. Rabbi stated, "We are more than meets the eye — self expression is who we are and is significant to G‑d."
Enthused by these words, we proceeded to the painting tables. Each one of us chose a vessel to paint — various shapes of dishes, bowls, cups, and bud vases. Dishes of paint and brushes were laid out for us to create — it was so interesting to see and hear how quiet the room became as each person delved into herself and her creation. Bassie thanked the following volunteers helping: Batsheva Bollinger , Rosalind Gantman , Barbara Wolinsky , Alejandra Paz, Joelle Quinn, Janet Deitch, Rebecca Howard, Gabi Dakteris, Ina Welland, and Mashie Marcus. Thanks also to Jennifer Vigillette for being the greeter and hostess.
And another fabulous evening came to a close. Each of us took home a gift of a mini tissue box that was imprinted with "Be creative — think out of the box."
